 In 1947, she married His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who was also heir to the thrones of Greece and Denmark, renounced all claims to the throne prior to his marriage and applied for naturalization in England.

 In 1948, she and Prince Philip gave birth to their first child, Prince Charles, and in 1950, their second child, Princess Anne. In his recent words, he said.

His Highness Philip is known, in my opinion, not to take any compliments easily. Yet he has always been a source of strength and a guide for me.

I apologize to him as always, but His Highness Prince Philip is compelled to listen to what I have to say. We often discuss my planned speech beforehand, and as you can imagine, he is very forthright in expressing his views.
